Assalam - u - alaikum,

Summer is here and its time for us to get ready to pack up and head for vacations.  The kids are jumping around and the house has been turned upside down, I guess that this is the story of most of the households now.  This is a time of family reunions and get together. Pakistan Association Dubai has arranged a colourful Summer Camp for kids with sport, recreational and religious programs in order to ensure that the time is well spent by the children.  Information on the program called the “Flowers of Jannah” can be obtained either by logging on to our website www.pakassociationdubai.com or by calling the Association.

A variety of cultural, religious and entertainment programs were arranged by the Association in the month of June.  Surprisingly, the weather turned refreshingly pleasant during these sessions and the audience hit a jackpot with a lot of entertainment during these relaxing times.

The situation at the home front has again turned a bit cloudy and we would like to request all our countrymen to pray to Allah to bring a lasting peace and prosperity to Pakistan and rid it of all evil elements.

We would like to wish you the best of luck for your summer vacations.

   Laughter the Best Medicine-Mazahiya Mushaira

From the pressures of present life if we can snatch few moments to laugh and relax, it is the biggest favor to ourselves and our fellow humans. This need was recognized and addressed by the Pakistan Association Dubai by organizing URDU MAZAHIYA MUSHAIRA at the lawn of its premises on the pleasant evening of 20th June 2008. When human beings embark on something good Heaven also gives it benevolent hand by providing all the favorable elements at its command. The evening proved to be pleasant and enjoyable both through the efforts and hard work of the organizers as well due to the bounty of beautiful weather bestowed by nature.

The MUSHAIRA proved to be an embodiment of good taste, collection of best poets upholding the rich tradition of subcontinent and versatility of URDU Language.

Where the poets were all the recognized personalities like M/S Professor Anwer Masood, Inayat Ali Khan, Ameer Ul Islam Hashmi,

Mustafa Ali Baig Sarfaraz Shahid, Inam Ul Haq Javed, Zahid Fakhri, Shoukat Jamal and our local guest Dr. Zubair Farooq, having individualistic style and humor. The audiences also proved to be the most disciplined, appreciative and of highest literary taste.

All poets were highly appreciated as they touched the topics of today with humor and originality which can only be done through the medium of Urdu.

Such occasions remind us of our high intellect, rich traditions, proud heritage and healthy tastes. This Mushaira will definitely serve as a milestone in the cultural development of Pakistani community in UAE.

This Mushaira had taken the audience away from trails and turmoil of present lives and provided the fresh breeze of hope and courage to laugh at ourselves and others around us. The poets, everyone in his unique language and style, pointed out the miseries and disappointment in such a way that they looked adventure instead of adversities. They provided a very heavy doze of courage and hope to change the BAD into Pleasant GOOD.

The credit of it all goes to the benevolence of the sponsors, hard work of the organizers and support, appreciation and encouragement of Urdu loving community living in UAE.

We pray that PAD succeeds in its effort to unite the community in development of good traditions and healthy culture and we see more of such events in future.

   With a Little Help

I was sitting in a train, waiting for it to start. Across from me sat a small boy, asking questions as children do. He asked his mother, "When will the train start?"

I saw my chance and volunteered to answer. I said, "The train will start when we start pushing."

The child opened his big eyes in surprise, "Really?" "Of course," I said. "Unless we push, it doesn't start."

"Then let's push," he exclaimed.

"Just a minute," I said. "The passengers are not all on. I'll tell you when to push."

I watched for the signal light at the station and heard the station master's shrill whistle. Then I shouted to the boy, "Now! Push for all you're worth."

He and I started to push in the direction of the engine. We pushed and pushed against the back of the seat.... and soon a contented smile lit up the boy's face. The train was moving ... very slowly at first, but then gaining speed little by little.

I congratulated the lad on his success. "We DID it! We DID it!

"Wasn't that great?" he exclaimed. He looked immensely pleased with himself. He was traveling in a train he had helped to start. I did not have the heart to tell him about the monstrous engine chugging up in front. Eventually he would find out for himself...

We usually attribute great success to our little actions, forgetting that behind them all is that almighty unseen power called God, whose power often makes us look powerful.

A life without a vision is not worth living

“It’s not a crime not to have your dreams fulfilled but it’s a crime not to have dreams at all”

This was the essence of an extremely enlightening and informative lecture delivered by Mr. Suleman Ahmer at the grounds of Pakistan Assosciation Dubai on the 12th of June. Suleman Ahmer is an Engineering graduate of the University of Nebraska and his research with the US Air Force in Solid State Physics culminated in published work. He is an award winning author and has three works: the essence of his travel experiences are captured in ‘The Embattled Innocence’ published in the US and his current focus is ‘Strategic Time Management’ and ‘Strategic Visions’. His articles on geopolitics and history have appeared in prestigious magazines in the US such as Washington Post for Middle East Affairs. He has spoken to over 40 US universities including the Harvard University, MIT, Emory, University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers.

Suleman Ahmer touched upon the current energy crises in and had it compared with the atomic program of the country. According to him the many governments who had resided over the parliament of our country failed to diagnose and implement the impending power crisis and made no strides to forecast the situation looking at the current as well as the extrapolated data. Because of this shortsightedness and a focus on vested interests the country has been pushed towards the current turmoil. In comparison to this the Pakistani Atomic Program had been a vision of one man who ensured that even the minute details were not overlooked and infused a spirit of dedication with an eye on a worthwhile goal. This turned out to be a success and a pride not just for Pakistan but for all Muslims.

Suleman Ahmer stressed upon the audience to ensure that they define goals both for personal and professional lives and live a life that is fulfilling and full of gratitude. He also spoke about the clarity of vision of our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and mentioned that the environment as well as the circumstances were totally against his mission but with a clarity of purpose he was able to create the most dynamic revolution that the world had ever witnessed.

Suleman regularly visits the UAE both for conducting seminars as well as to carry out consulting services for his various clients. He can be contacted at www.timelenders.com. In the end he was presented a memento by the management of PAD and it was announced that another program would be held soon on Visions with a larger audience.

   The Pakistan Resolution

Jinnah's Lahore address lowered the final curtain on any prospects for a single united independent India. Those who understood him enough know that once his mind was made up he never reverted to any earlier position realized how momentous a pronouncement their Quaid-i-Azam had just made. The rest of the world would take at least seven years to appreciate that he literally meant every word that he had uttered that important afternoon in March. There was no turning back. The ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity had totally transformed himself into Pakistan's great leader. All that remained was for his party first, then his inchoate nation, and then his British allies to agree to the formula he had resolved upon. As for Gandhi, Nehru, Azad and the rest, they were advocates of a neighbor state and would be dealt with according to classic canons of diplomacy. - Stanley Wolpert, Jinnah of Pakistan.

The British had been compelled to recognize the Muslim League as the sole representative of the Muslims of India by 1940 and Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah as its undisputed leader.

Jinnah decided to address a public gathering on the opening day. It was a huge gathering of the Leaguers, the Khaksars and the Muslims at Minto Park (now Iqbal Park).

Though, most of his audience of over 100,000 did not know English, he held their attention and visibly touched their emotion. He asserted that the Muslims were "a nation by any definition". In his historical address he laid the foundation of a separate state for the Muslims of India:

The Quaid-i-Azam flanked by Liaqat Ali Khan at All-India Muslim League Lahore Session in March, 1940.

"The Hindus and the Muslims belong to two different religions, philosophies, social customs, and literature. They neither inter-marry, nor inter-dine together, and indeed they belong to two different civilizations which are based mainly on conflicting ideas and conceptions. Their aspects on life are different. It is quite clear that Hindus and Muslims derive their inspirations from different sources of history. They have different epics, their heroes are different, and they have different episodes. Very often the hero of one is foe of the other, and likewise, their victories and defeats overlap. To yoke together two such nations under a single state, one as a numerical minority and the other as a majority, must lead to growing discontent and the final destruction of any fabric that may be so built for the government of such a state."

The session began with Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan presenting the annual report on March 23, 1940. After the report, Maulana Fazlul Haq from Bengal, moved the famous Lahore Resolution, better known as the Pakistan Resolution, "…the areas in which the Muslims are numerically in a majority as in the North-Western and Eastern zones of India should be grouped to constitute 'Independent States' in which the constituent units shall be autonomous and sovereign." The resolution was seconded by Choudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman who gave a brief history of the causes which led the Muslims to demand a separate state for themselves. Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, Sardar Aurangzeb Khan, Sir Abdullah Haroon, Nawab Ismail Khan, Qazi Mohammad Isa and I.I Chundigar supported it, among others.

Syed Junaid Ghaznavi Addresses Pakistani Community

Keeping up with its tradition to invite men of wisdom to raise awareness on different topics among the Pakistani Community, PAD hosted a lecture at its premises on 27 June. The topic was: “Responsibilities of the Muslim Ummah in Present Times”.

The honorable speaker was Mr. Syed Junaid Ghaznavi, a renowned religious scholar and famous anchor person at various ATV and Prime TV talk shows.

Based on several historical facts and undeniable arguments, Mr. Ghaznavi proved his point that the movement of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) brought about an all encompassing change in the history of the mankind that no other person or system has ever achieved. This revolution, starting with its inception in the Holy City of Makkah and passing through various stages was not just conceptualized and prescribed but was designed and fully implemented with all its details covering every walk of life within a time span of only 23 years. The human history is unable to produce any second example.

In his enlightening and highly motivational address, Mr. Ghaznavi invited the audience to ponder upon the true link between their hearts and minds to discover the real purpose of life. He stressed the point that we, as Muslims, do not need to escape from anything of worldly nature. Rather we should operate in every sphere of life, keeping only one thing in mind, i.e. all our deeds should be in line with the ordinance of Qur’an and the guidance provided by our beloved Prophet (p.b.u.h).

Presenting innumerable quotes from the Holy Qura’an and Ahadith, Syed J. Ghaznavi reminded the gathering that Rasulullah did not just preach Islam to his followers, but he himself demonstrated to be the best practice and the role model of all the Qur’anic teachings. His family members and his companions (may Allah be pleased with all of them) followed his footsteps.

At the end he urged the audience to revert to the true guiding principles of Islam. For, this is the only way we can bring about justice, peace and tranquility in this world which is currently in desperate need of guidance and help.
