Vol. 1, Issue 10 - 1st June 2008
EDITORIAL

Assalam - u - alaikum,

10th issue of Pehchaan is in front of you. It is a miracle and mercy of Almighty Allah that a small bunch of people with no experience and resources took upon themselves a noble task of issuing an ELECTRONIC NEWS LETTER with the sole intention of bringing the community together and today its issues are in double digits.

I clearly recall the day when some one from amongst our team asked me to join  for this purpose. I kept my skepticism to myself, and only joined with the intention of not offending and discouraging such an enthusiastic group. Today when I am writing this piece with all my journalistic ignorance and shortcomings, I have full confidence that one day some one will write its thousandth or millionth editorial as well.
With suppressed pride and very humble gratitude I can say that PEHCHAAN with around 8,000 subscribers in UAE has embarked successfully on the road of unifying the community and has paved the way for others to follow it's lead in other fields of community service.

PAD website launched on auspicious occasion of 23rd March is also proving another unifying source and manifestation of community interest in Association efforts as the centre of the UAE Pakistani Nation that is clearly visible from an overwhelming 71,755 hits since the launch of our portal.

We pray that our Nation in UAE and in the rest of the world gathers at one platform to make our beloved Pakistan a great country it deserves to be.

Golden Heart in the City of Gold

After dropping off the Chinese passenger Ramin was picking up another passenger who informed Ramin that the boot is open and a bag is inside of the boot. When Ramin checked he found a bag full of currency & gold. Ramin informed his operation officer at his company who informed the police. Finally with the help of Police and Arabia Taxi, the passenger found his USD 40,000/- and 9.5kg of Gold back.

Ramin Khan was awarded with certificate and prize money of AED. 10,000/- from RTA, AED. 3,000/- from Arabia Taxi & AED. 1,000/- by the Chinese passenger in recognition of his honest gesture and motivation for others.

For Ramin Khan, a simple middle age gentlemen, money has its importance in life but is nothing for which one should loose his integrity & faith.

“I am a very simple man from Kohaat and honesty is in my nature, on 18th of May I was called by Shaikh Muhammad palace where His Highness congratulated me. A good deed always helps a person in life, I have complete faith in Allah and his reward is all I need and I believe He is watching us all the time and give us respect when we do something good and give us punishment when we do something dishonest.”

These daily life examples are source of encouragement for all of us in every walk of life to maintain our integrity as members of a healthy society. It should not be only when we get some material things to show our honest gesture; it applies to our commitments and our manners in dealing with others as well.

We are proud to introduce another gentlemen from Pakistan who has golden heart, a practical example of honesty. Mr. Ramin Khan, hails from Kohat city in North West of Pakistan, has four daughters & one son. Ramin came to UAE 10 years ago as a private taxi driver in Al Ain and working with Arabia Taxi since last two years.

He could have easily become a ‘very rich’ man overnight. But he chose to be honest and sincere instead. It was a routine day for Ramin when he picked up a Chinese passenger from Marco Polo hotel in Dubai and dropped him at Gold Souk. The passenger had kept his luggage in the boot of the car.

More than 100 persons attended the lecture. Qari Sahib emphasized on need of practicing these values in our daily life to bring peace and harmony in our society. Islam provides us the most comprehensive and practical system of social balance not only for the Muslim Ummah but also for the other communities around us. The session was concluded with a prayer followed by light refreshments..

   Cricket Fever Caught PAD

Catches win matches! Indeed so with the start of the sultry summer setting in and before the crowd heads to the seas; Pakistani youth had something else in the mind. And what can stop the Pakistani youth from pursuing just a ball to play catch with.

Just until recently Pakistani cricket hasn’t been up to the promise. But none of our youth’s business. Lively and creative but all they need is the right conviction and vision and intent.

Cricket runs in the blood of Pakistani youth. Under the patronage of Pakistan Association which has seen renewed energy after their facelift through their website and of course the efforts; were organized cricket matches in Ajman and Umm-al-Quain. Probably, Pakistan Association wants the Sharjah Stadium to have a branch over there with their pioneering footprints and why not.

Our team at PAD won 5 matches out of 8 played in last three months.

PADCC won 1st Match against MCC by 7 wickets; 4th Match against ECC by 3 wickets, 7th Match against YFCC by 3 wickets & 8th Match against AEN by 3 wickets.

Our team’s captain Sajid, players Zahid, Zohaib & Wajid won Man of the Match for their extra-ordinary performance. Wajid scored 65 runs in 29 balls with five 6s and five 4s against AEN.

They were given trophy by the General Secretary Mr. Sabir Hussain & Joint Secretary Mr. Inayat Hussain. A good crowd of enthusiast were on the grounds to enjoy every moment of the matches.

   Daddy... I Need You

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
DAD: “Yeah sure, what is it?” replied the man.
SON: “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?” the man said angrily.
SON: “I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “If you must know, I make $20 an hour.”
“Oh,” the little boy replied, with his head down. Looking up, he said,
“Daddy, may I please borrow $10?”

The father was furious, “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

“Are you asleep, son?” He asked. “No daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy.“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,” said the man. “It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $10 you asked for.”

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you daddy!” He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

“Why do you want more money if you already have some?” the father grumbled.

“Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied.
“Daddy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”

Share this story with someone you like.... But even better, share $20 worth of time with someone you love. It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family. An unwise investment indeed!
