Editorial

Assalam-u-alaikum

RAMADAN MUBARAK TO ALL:

Ramadan is the month of fasting, praying and asking the blessing of Allah (swt). This is the month given as a gift to ummah to achieve taqwa.

Every Muslim and specially Pakistanis should take full advantage of it to reduce our sins and increase our hasanaat.

It is a month where we are trained to experience pain of hunger, to develop the habit of tolerance and to remember God and our duties towards our fellow human beings. The nights of this month are full of barakaat and days are full of hasanaat.

Every Muslim who finds this month should consider himself lucky to take full advantage thinking that it may be the last and who knows whether we will get the next one or not.

This is the month where unimaginable rewards await every fasting Muslim and when we get the chance to save ourselves from hell fire, which is a very horrible place to be.

We individually and collectively should ask Allah’s forgiveness of our past sins and sincerely try to avoid them in future because Allah is merciful Who has promised to forgive us provided we are sincere in our efforts to avoid bad deeds for the sake of our eternal life in the hereafter.

Let us all pray for the prosperity of our nation and forgiveness of our sins.

Pakistan Paindabad.

Independence Day Celebration

“PAD is the pulse of the Pakistanis stationed in the UAE, it’s multi-purpose hall would be a hallmark of achievements and social development for all Pakistanis,” said Muhammad Riaz Farooq Sahi, President PAD.

“It’s our determination to develop in Pakistan Association Dubai an atmosphere of Pakistan for the overseas Pakistanis. The Day of Independence emulates the strong message of unity, oneness and integral national bonding and belonging. At this moment, we have to have a resolution to make this hall a possibility,” said Muhammad Khaleeq, Secretary General of Pakistan Association Dubai.

This year also marked the appreciation of the contributions of the founders of Pakistan Association Dubai by initiating the brick laying ceremony of the Multi-purpose, multi-faceted hall on 13th August, 2009. The event was graced by all and sundry including members of the various active wings; Professional Wing, Medical Wing, Maritime Wing, Youth Club, Girls Wing, Ladies Wing, IT Wing, etc. Also, noteworthy was the honored presence of the Pakistan's Ambassador to the UAE, H.E Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, Pakistan’s Ambassador At Large, Javed Malik also donned the event along with Consul General Saeed Khan Mohmand. The huge gathering comprised of people from every walk of life, doctors, engineers, students, businessmen and young and old women and children.

While a renowned intellect of the Punjab University, Prof. Ishtiaq Ahmed Gondal, too addressed the audience, where he highlighted the importance of sacrifices of the nation on the auspices of 14th August which marked the resurgence of the Muslim façade with a newer zeal and determination and broader visions. And that the blood spent now demands us to uphold the divine promises as only 2 nations, in the name of religion, surfaced. Also, he iterated the importance of merit which is a cornerstone for any community to rise up to the challenges and Pakistan Association has taken the right step in consolidating and reforming it in the times ahead.

While the Secretary General, Muhammad Khaleeq, detailed the plan and the vision of Pakistan Association Dubai. With a handy presentation on a projector he related the achievements and the ongoing projects, be it the weekly Medical Camp arrangement, the Scholarship arrangement for deserving but underprivileged students, ration, rent and utility bill payments for the underprivileged, ensuring well managed but never-humiliating exodus of the illegal immigrants safely back to Pakistan. He also introduced the Urdu version of Pehchaan which was its official launching for the community who prefer reading Pehchaan in Urdu. Moreover he stressed on the cooperation at every level that is required from the community to build the multi-purpose hall which is planned to surface by 23rd March, 2010 portraying the mini Pakistani n UAE.

The President of the Association, Riaz Farooq Sahi, also delivered a unique but heart rendering message; summarizing, he said this auspicious day is our glorified legacy which is a pride for all of us. This day delivers the eternal lesson of our ancestors of resolute belief, consistent struggle and infallible duties. This day wants from us the determination and the intentions to serve the country’s interest better. The promises of social uplift have to be seen being put to task, this is the collective but individual responsibility to work in tandem, to work as a nation.

He urged he community to come together to make the multi purpose hall a reality; which in its precedent has an unfortunate history which was the becoming of personal rifts discrepancies and unprofessional disagreements which rot away the foundations of the extension of the association where the new foundations were laid yet again. Also, he said, after the Association identified its rejuvenated role they carry a vision of progress.

The brick laying ceremony began when the clock struck 0000 hrs coinciding with the Independence Day. Special dramatics items were presented by children from various schools and the national anthem was played when all stood up in respect.

Summer Camp 2009

To keep the history alive this year too, PAD organized a summer camp for children and teenagers entitled as “Flowers of Jannah”. The theme of the camp was "Living Islam Daily”. This summer saw more than two hundred registrations and the children were grouped, according to their age, into three sections.

During this 3-week camp the level of participation, motivation and support was highly commendable on the part of children and their parents. One of the unique aspects of this event was active participation of other nationalities as well.

Summer Camp

An interesting and colorful learning environment was provided portraying the true Islamic image and Pakistani culture. Apart from lectures and interactive sessions there were lots of activities including funloving competitions like henna painting, mango eating, quiz, debate, joke of the day, cooking, baking, handicrafts, beautification, poster making and thesis on “Muslim Era in Spain”.

To maintain the interest of young ones throughout the summer camp skits, stories, puppet shows, poems, drawing, and painting were included in the curriculum. A day's trip was also organized for the children to Dubai Museum which was really interesting and memorable.

Summer camp ended with a colorful final day function attended by a large number of community members. The ceremony was marked and honored by the presence of the mothers and quite a few renowned Pakistani community ladies, namely Mrs Lubna, Mrs Samina Nasir, Mrs Tirmidhi and Mrs Azeem.

Impressive and stunning performances by various groups were enjoyed and admired by the guests and mothers. Chief Guest Mrs. Samina Nasir praised the entire organizing team of summer camp especially the teachers and encouraged them to keep up the spirit.

The Power of Hope

Did you know that the bumblebee should not be able to fly? Based on its size, weight, and shape of its body in relation to its total wing span, a flying bumblebee is aerodynamically impossible.

The bumblebee, being ignorant of scientific data, goes ahead and flies anyway, making honey every day.

Ignore the sting of the past and replace it with hope for a brighter future. If you do, you will be able to achieve things everyone else thinks are impossible. Keep your hopes high and you will fly to new heights!

"The past does not have a future, but you do."

In Chuck Swindoll's Hope Again he states, "Hope is a wonderful gift from God, a source of strength and courage in the face of life's harshest trials." He goes on to say:

  • When we are trapped in a tunnel of misery, hope points to the light at the end.
  • When we are overworked and exhausted, hope gives us fresh energy.
  • When we are discouraged, hope lifts our spirits.
  • When we are tempted to quit, hope keeps us going.
  • When we lose our way and confusion blurs the destination, hope dulls the edge of panic.
  • When we struggle with a crippling disease or a lingering illness, hope helps us persevere beyond the pain.
  • When we must endure the consequences of bad decisions, hope fuels our recovery.
  • When we find ourselves unemployed, hope tells us we still have a future.
  • When we are forced to sit back and wait, hope gives us the patience to trust.
  • When we feel rejected and abandoned, hope reminds us we are not alone... we’ll make it.

Look for someone who is struggling and give them hope and encouragement. It will make their day and yours as well.

I hope you do!

Let's Speak

Let's Speak is a PAD initiative to have a dialog with the community and air opinions of community members on different issues.

This time our Q&A session focuses on the importance of Ramadan. Following are the responses received to PAD Editorial Team's Questionnaire:

Q1: Mention any lesson learned from the last Ramadan which became a part of your life?
space space space space

I had shifted to Sharjah last year and was unable to pray Taraveeh due to hectic commuting between Dubai and Sharjah, This year I have arranged for car lift and it is helping me retain energy for Taraveeh prayers.Adnan Amir

Taqwa.
Salman Ahmad

The importance of 5 times Salah. Muhammad Hafeez

Regular Tilawat. Muhammad Ejaz

Q2: Any resolution set by you for this Ramadan?
space space space space

Ramazan always leaves a message of adopting simplicity, we can live without food for so many hours, why not live without luxuries rest of our lives, which is quite cost saving.
Waleed Mirza

To deliver the massage of Allah to the Non Muslims throughout the life and maximum in the month of Ramadan as our Holy Qur'aan was revealed for the whole of humanity in this month. Muhammad Ali

Keep all fasts, and say Taraveeh prayers. Adnan Amir

Tried to keep resolutions which are realistic, doesn't matter how small they are. Salman Ahmad

Q3: Are you successful in translating the true spirit of Ramadan into next generation?
space space space space

Yes, when ever I get a chance I do not miss it. Ahmer

I take my 4 year old son for prayers to the masjid, make him sit with us for iftar & Suhoor. Make them feel the importance of this Holy Ramadan. Salman Ahmad

Children follow their parents so we should have a good spirit in us to make our youth understand the importance of Ramadan. Mustaqeem Ahmed

I am trying to practice true spirit of Ramadan and new/next generation has an example in front of them to follow whatever we practice. Adnan Amir

Q4: According to you is it a month of IBADAT, ENJOY FOOD, MONTH OF REST, PROFIT MAKTING, for most of the Pakistanis & why?
space space space space

Allah in this month increases the RIZQ, gives BARKAT in business so it is not bad to assume making profit is any bad thing. Muhammad Kamran

This month is of intensive Ibadah at night, work at day, the true spirit of Ramazan is to feel the urge and hunger, otherwise its not being realized. Profit making should be discouraged as the rest of the year can be better utilized for profit making if honesty is displayed and restraint of greed is invested in business. Waleed Mirza

It should be a month of Ibadat and enjoying Ibadat + all blessings of Allah (including food), but unfortunately it is being used for profit making by few, specially traders. Adnan Amir

Basically its a mix of all these activities but I feel sad to say that the Ibaada' bit is still on the very low scale. Seen people exchanging greetings sms/emails of Ramadan Mubarak. Agreed its the great month but only Greeting each other does not help. We should try to understand more of its benefit than only exchanging greetings. Salman Ahmad

Q5: Would you like to donate your ZAKAT, ATIYAT to Pakistan Association Dubai for the Needy Pakistanis in UAE?
space space space space

Relatives come first. Abdur Rehman

I have already planned for that. Khalid

Yes I would like to do that. Salman Ahmad

No as I got many known relatives who are in need for Zakat. As family comes first. Salman Ahmad
