Dear Readers Assalam Allaikum
Hope that you are fine and receiving your electronic copy of PEHCHAAN regularly.
Our aim behind this effort is to build a bond and to provide a platform to Pakistanis living in the UAE to engage and be informed about day to day affairs and the issues affecting our lives here.
How far we have succeeded in this is not known as the readers feed back is very limited. It is either because we are failing to address the relevant issues which are of interest to the community or community has other priorities. In both these cases we feel it as our own failure.
On behalf of PECHAAN Editorial Board and the Executive Committee of Pakistan Association of Dubai we will appeal our readers to let us have your feedback about the contents, design and material of this Newsletter to make it your true PEHCHAAN. The participation of various sections of society, our youth, our sisters and brothers from all walks of life is requested to make this letter your true Voice.
Please send us your views, your recommendations, your criticism and your suggestions to make PEHCHAAN a real interactive and vibrant platform of the community affairs.

- Impression of being a Pakistani |
Success
and failure of a nation has deep impression on
the individuals of that nation. This impression
can be easily felt when you see individuals of
different nations meeting each other. An American
meeting a British, the same British meeting a
French, a Finish
or a Pakistani. The attitude will be different
in all those individual meetings, though the background
of the meeting and individuals has its own influence
on the attitude. This attitude is well reflected
when dignitaries/officials of one nation/country
visits the other. How Pakistani officials are
treated in UK, USA, and Germany and how Pakistani
treats UK, USA & Germany officials.
What is behind those attitudes? Is it simply because some countries are richer while others are poor? Or there are other things as well. If money is the only thing that makes a difference than some middle eastern countries are richer than many western countries.
Pride of a nation is not only in economics, though good or bad economy might be one of the outcomes. What really makes the difference is THINKNG. Positive thinking is the key to success. Positive thinking is not feeling good about everything but it is about finding positive way-out even in the worst situations.
Here
it is important to say that while positive thinking
is the key to success but thinking without action
again is meaningless.
Here I would like to ask myself what do other nationalities think about Pakistanis in general or what our impression is (keeping aside official interaction during duty times). No matter what feel good mode we are living with, reality is not what we would like to hear. Forget about other nations, some simple questions to ourselves might lead us to the conclusion e.g.
- Except few brands/goods (Shan Masala, Pakistani Beef/Mutton, Bareeze, etc) are we keen to buy Pakistani products in general?
- Do we believe when a strange Pakistani approaches us for your support with a big story?
- Is it easy for us getting visas for other countries especially western?
- How are we treated by immigration officers of other countries?
- Are we ready to move all or a large portion
of our investment into
Pakistan?
- How many tourists visit Pakistan every year (even when situation was better)?
I understand that last two questions are heavily influenced by governmental policies in this regard.
Recently
one more star has been added to our credentials
now wherever in the world something bad happens
and people start looking for links with Pakistan.
Is this impression okay rather acceptable for a nation which created a country on the map of the world??? We can scream NO, NO, NO. Do we want to continue living with impression? I believe a bigger NO, NO, NO. So what we should do because this will not reverse automatically.
Some
might say what is wrong with our impression we
are fine people and
even much better than some other countries. Lets
take corruption as an example, where are we on
the scale of corruption? Let’s assume we
are in the middle not very high and not very low.
But is it acceptable for us as Pakistanis.
What
is important here is the context in which we measure
ourselves. My dear friends, when I say Pakistan
is the most important country in world it is not
only in the muslim world but for the whole world.
I repeat we created Pakistan on the world map
and entirely at our own, are we the same nation?
How many countries are there on world map which
came into being by peoples’ will? I totally
disagree that Pakistan was created by others for
their own agenda. No Sir,
Pakistan came into being after millions of sacrifices.
People sacrificed their loved ones, their properties
and their businesses for Pakistan. We are the
generation of same people who made history some
60 years ago. We still have some of the people
who were either part of that history or witness
of that account. Many people who made it to Pakistan made penniless but there was a feeling
of accomplishment, a sense of hope, and eagerness
to prove something. A country with meager or no
resources, with millions of traumatized and penniless
migrants not only survived but progressed.
What was the driving force then? How it all happened? Was it faith? Was it a commitment? Was it leadership? Or was it mere help of Allah? Remember even Allah help only those who help themselves. Only when there is will, there is a way.
We
need to pause a little from our routines, do some
deep thinking, develop some strategy and get our
pride back. Believe me it is not impossible but may be a bit difficult.
To
begin with I would like to request you to send
me five major issues/challenges that Pakistan
is facing, the root cause of those issues/challenges
and how can we resolve them. Kindly send your
emails to knadeem@hotmail.co.uk or by email to Pak
Association Dubai.
Based on your response we will arrange sessions to discuss top ten issues. We will also arrange sessions to rebuild our image as Pakistani. May Allah Help Us!

- TRUST- Basis of Success |
Everyone is going through an anxiety, uncertainty and insecurity out of financial, political and social turmoil going around us. But no one I mean no one seems to know the real reason as well as the remedy to correct the situation.
Couple of days back I received the following e-mail from one of my friend who is the authority in the area of human relationships and work on the techniques to develop harmonious and successful relationships among various sections of human society. Here he has addressed a very important aspect of group relationship on which the success and failure of the Team work depends.
I am sharing his thoughts with you in his words and would like to invite your and your team’s self test on this important element of success.
Dear xxxx,
Bernard Madoff scammed over 5,000 investors out of 65 billion dollars. Like any crime that you read or hear about, it's concerning to each of us. My reaction deepened as I spoke with an old friend whose aging parents had invested their entire retirement savings with Madoff. I felt more deeply felt the real-life implications of broken trust as my friend's parents must consider selling their house, change a lifestyle they had worked years to earn and feel the angst of an uncertain final chapter in their lives.
Trust is the basis for all successful leaders and all successful relationships for that matter. You cannot buy trust, but it is free. Trust is priceless yet can be earned over time. Have you ever tried to request someone's trust? Maybe it was a team member, customer or a colleague. You may have wanted a decision to be made in your favor. To overcome some initial disagreement and expedite the decision making process, you might resort to “Hey, just trust me!” That statement is worthless. Either the other party already trusted you based on your past actions or they did not trust you and your request won't change that. Trust is not spoken, it is demonstrated. Trust cannot be requested, it must be earned.
Trust is the wheel that makes relationships go ‘round. Losing trust is not just like getting a flat tire; it's like losing the whole wheel! So, we need to earn and nurture our team's trust every day – whether a team at home or work. A trusting team:
- Is more open to change
- Delivers better service
- Focuses on finding win-win solutions
- Has lower turnover
- Shares unfiltered information to help the team be successful
- Quickly forgives their leader if he/she makes a mistake.
Trust is also complex. There are complete books dedicated to trust that do not even address all of its facets. So, let's boil it down to this simple Trust Test:
- Do you serve your team's best interests?
(Not your own interests)
- Do you communicate all the information they need to be successful? (Don't make assumptions about what you think "they can handle". Leaders who underestimate the intelligence of their teams generally overestimate their own.)
- Do you keep your commitments?
(Leaders must watch their words because even a casual comment can be interpreted as a commitment.)
Notice these simple questions are geared toward how trustworthy you are Vs. how much you trust your team. No passing or failing here - we can all improve our trust building behaviors. Today's winners are bold enough to be honest with themselves make necessary changes. Now more than ever, your team's success may come down to a matter of trust.
I would love to learn from you! Please share your insights about trust. Like I did with favorite quotations, I will post your comments (with your permission, of course) in a future newsletter.
Until then, I trust you will make it a great week! |

If you're eating out with Credit Card then it's Show Off. Simple. It should rather be a hobby, a reason to sit around in a good ambience with friends. Who has friends in the first place in commercial worlds and if they have who has time. So it should be more of like a ROYAL gathering to be remembered.
Waleed Mirza
|
Every body has his own point of view. Some dine out for fashion and status symbol. My personal experience is that i enjoy food cooked at home in terms of taste and variety. We dine out just to change the mood to give the feeling to my family that I love them and care them.

Once we ate pizza hut outside , then on the way back home, we went to shopping center and brought ingredients for making pizza, which we made the very next day in house, since then we have quit eating pizza outside, and I have been announced as the best pizza maker by my kids only, who prefer not to eat pizza out side.
Khursheed
|
When you go out for dining and you watch happy faces trying to vanish their problems out of their faces.
Zulfiqar Ali Siyal
|
For me enjoying time is when waiting for my order to come, I keep watching the behavior and attitude of people around. It is many a times so interesting that I do appreciate the creator what colorful world He has created. Many things I feel bad in others, immediately I start to have a check on myself, may be I'm doing the same actions and becoming a joke for the others.

Swine Flu and Safety Measures |
What is it? It is a virus that mutated from pigs and transmitted to some humans
Which places have been affected? Mexico City, California and Texas, so far
How many have been killed? 103 people in Mexico City
How many have been infected? Mexican authorities are investigating 1,614 suspected cases. The flu is spreading with 20 cases in the United States and four in Canada. New Zealand reported 15 new suspected cases. Is there a cure? The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website states that there is no vaccine to specifically protect humans from swine flu, only to protect pigs. Although GlaxoSmithKline Plc's flu treatment Relenza and Roche Holding AG's Tamiflu appear effective against the strains of the virus the CDC has tested.
What are authorities doing to contain the virus? The World Health Organization went on high alert, dispatching top experts to the United States and Mexico. The CDC has also set up emergency operation centres.
Signs and symptoms
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen Sudden dizziness Confusion Severe or persistent vomiting Fever with a rash (among children)
- Bluish skin color (among children)
Easy ways to protect against infection

Little can be done to prevent an outbreak of flu from spreading, health experts caution, but they say common sense measures can help individuals protect themselves. Practice the following:
- Wash your hands frequentlyCover your cough or your sneezeUse alcohol-based gel or foam hand sanitizersIf you have flu-like symptoms, stay away from work or public transportation
- Social distancing. Stay away from people who might be infected
