Assalam –u alaikum!
We regret for not issuing the March supplement of Pehchaan, which was due to very valid reason. PAD executive body went through a healthy and democratic process of electing a new Executive Body for the next two years term.
Alhamdulillah the community went through this process in a very organized and disciplined way on 20th March 2009.
The outstanding features of this election were:
- The neutrality ,dedication and discipline demonstrated by the Pakistan Consulate, the Election Committee , Ad hoc committee and all members of PAD.
- Organization and transparency through which this whole process was conducted.
- Maturity of the electorate.
- Democratic spirit of both parties i.e. “Pak Friends” and “United Forum”
- Undisputed acceptance of Pak Friends victory
- And finally the promise to cooperate by the representatives of United Forum which deserves all praise and appreciation.
The new Executive Committee has taken charge on 27th March 2009 in a graceful ceremony and in the charged atmosphere of enthusiasm, co-operation, goodwill, new challenges and promises.
We hope and pray that Almighty gives this body the opportunity and strength to fulfill all the ambitions and hopes of the community and it succeeds in making this Association a place of peace and a symbol of progress, co-operation and pride of all Pakistanis living in Dubai specially and UAE generally.
Pakistan Paindabad!

- We are Pakistanis. We are one. |
Two successive Fridays in the month of March saw history being made at the Pakistan Association Dubai.
On the 20th of March, in an exemplary display of a democratic process, a record number of Pakistanis turned out to cast their votes for electing the new Executive committee of PAD. The process was accepted by both sides as free and transparent, a testament to the efforts of the Pakistan Consulate, the Election Committee, the Ad-hoc Committee, volunteers and cooperation between the 2 opposing panels – Pak Friends and United Forum.
The final outcome saw Pak Friends given a resounding victory by a margin of 143 votes.
The 27th of March, another Friday, witnessed unprecedented harmony among both opposing panels as they shared the stage during the oath taking ceremony and pledged their cooperation to serve the community. Speaking on the occasion, H. E. Khurshid Ahmed Junejo, Pakistani Ambassador to UAE, acknowledged that the gathering on the night was the embodiment of the founding principles of Pakistan - Unity, Faith and Discipline. He asked the newly elected committee to translate and maintain this spirit throughout the tenure.

- PAD Girls Wing Sets New Standards at Inauguration Event |
Year 2009 marked the beginning of a new era in the history of the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), as it launched a Girls Wing which envisions uniting the young feminine members of the Pakistani community in the U.A.E.
The governing team for the year 2009 was elected during the ceremony held recently. Under the leadership of such a hard-working and excellence striving leadership was the PAD Girls Wing able to organize an outstanding inauguration dinner on the eve of 14 February.
The program was a colourful blend of speeches, dramas, raffles, and quizzes. It offered the guests such a variety that at times it made the audience burst with laughter but at other moments it touched their innermost feelings and brought tears into many eyes. The most touching moment was the point when the Girls Wing President Miss Anum Khaleeq addressed the audience. The speech was just an acknowledgement address but the spirit and fervour with which she uttered her gratitude touched every heart and moistened a lot of eyes.
The General Secretary of the Girls Wing Miss Qandeel Arif introduced the motives of the Wing. She highlighted the vision, emphasized the objectives and encouraged the audience by giving an insight into the future activities of the wing. Later on the Chief Guest Dr. Faiza Saeed, wife of the Consul General of Pakistan conducted the raffle and addressed the audience. Her words were full of praise and encouragement.
The dramas were the main attraction of the ceremony. They were funny, yet satirical, concocted yet true. The performance and get up of the actors was outstanding. The result was that the dramas were extremely successful as the audience was all-praise for them. A quiz was carried out in between different segments which made the program all the more interesting as the audience was completely involved at all times.
In the end, Mrs. Noor gave an address in which she not only praised and encouraged but also offered her services to the Girls Wing. She ended the program expressing her wishes for a prosperous future and a never-ending support for such a steadfast and determined team.
The main sponsors of the program were Maxcare International, co-sponsors were SZABIST, and the associate sponsors were HMC Beauty Salon and Lasani Restaurant. Representatives from the sponsors were also present at the ceremony. The awe-inspiring thing was that the event was completely organized by a group of young girls, mostly students. Their intentions, devotion and hard work were evident to those who attended the program.
Though this is just the beginning, though a stem has just sprouted from the seed, though the shoot is just new to the surroundings, but if it is able to extract the right source of nourishment from the soil and the sun, if its able to make the right use of its own resources and its surroundings, it is sure to bloom. There is a promise of a big healthy tree that will offer fruit and at the same time shade to those around it in the days to come.

- Pakistan Association Dubai - Oath Taking Ceremony |
A personal view of a walk-in Pakistani
 |
Oath Taking Cermony at PAD |
Though I passed through Dubai at least twice every year, but it was only this time that I broke my journey. The first surprise was the new terminal of Emirates which is as large as one could think. Once outside the terminal it was a new city with skyscrapers everywhere, big malls, broad metal roadways and construction going on as far as you could see.
On reviewing my old contacts I was told that Pakistan Association Dubai had its two-yearly elections recently and the new elected body will take oath during my sojourn in Dubai. The Khaleej Time, the vibrant newspaper of Dubai, also had reported about the election and the new body which was to take its oath of office soon.
Dubai weather gave me pleasant surprise; it started raining every day after the night fall bringing the mercury down and for the expatriates from the UK it was homecoming.
Curious to see how the Pakistan Association Dubai has grown these years I asked my nephew to drop me Friday evening as scheduled. The first thing I did when I arrived there was to join the Isha prayer and then brief introduction with some of those present, some old and mostly new. But the warmth was the same that is common among Pakistanis wherever and whenever they meet each other.
There was some wait for the Chief Guest, the Pakistani Ambassador to UAE, H.E. Khurshid Ahmed Junejo, and once he arrived, the stage started to set in the lawns of the association which will soon turn into an auditorium. The guests made themselves comfortable on the chairs with round tables set for dinner that was an item already set after the ceremony.
It was a big gathering of men and women; Pakistanis of all variations and of all vocations and from the four corners of the Islamic Republic. The proceeding as per the Islamic norm with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an and then after a few introductory speeches the oath taking took place which was done with grace and humility. The most striking feature of the new panel which will run Pakistani Association was that it was elected in a very transparent election under the guidance and supervision of the Pakistani Consulate. The victors and the losers were all there and vowed to work in unison and under the democratic principles that necessitate that winners and losers both become one after the election is over. The other new feature was the election of a lady for the post of Education Secretary. The proceedings were in full bloom when the weather started to change, drops of rain prompted the speakers to shorten their speeches and while the newly elected President Mr. Riaz Farooq Sahi was speaking it started to pour with gusty winds. The guests and the hosts had no option but to take shelter under small trees, verandas, the office rooms, the hall and whatever shelter there was. The ladies were the first to be given the shelter from the rain. The gusty wind accompanied by rain lasted for about an hour and sumptuous dinner was affected, making it a camp-style standing dinner with heavenly waters dropping on the plate. Once the rain and the winds over the function continued with all the participants standing, holding their chairs – in a way it was a standing ovation to the new office bearers who were already welcomed by the heavenly rains. It augers well with such occasions when a new team starts its journey with promise for a new future for the Pakistani Association – bright, fruitful and befitting for the good cause of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and its overseas contributors to its growth and prosperity.

- A Beautiful evening with Orya Maqbool Jan |
|
The noble life of Prophet (PBUH) was the topic of address. Hundreds of Pakistani men and women attended the heart-warming and soul-searching lecture. In pin-drop silence, the honorable speaker explored a variety of facets of the Apostle of Allah with many examples. He elaborated how the words and actions of our beloved Prophet changed the lives of the people of barren land. He quoted a number of Ahadith and elaborated their impact upon the society.
Mr. Jan discussed in detail moral values of Pre-Islamic societies based on man-made rules and their detrimental affect on humanity. With innumerable examples from the history he explained how mankind passed through a long era of darkness and how the glorious teachings of Islam preached and practiced by our ultimate role model, The Holy Prophet, transformed the society and provided a solid basis for a well-balanced system.
The audience was very much impressed by the speaker who was not just narrating stories from the life of a great man, he was striking the strings of each heart that moistened the eyes. He influenced the thinking of many of audience to review their lives once again.
It was a beautiful ending of the last tenure of PAD, a gift by the religious committee. Muhammad Riaz Farooq Sahi, the President of PAD was the concluding speaker of the event who thanked the audience for making the evening spiritual and sensational. |
