Arabic is the language of the Qur'an. Traditionally, Muslims believe it is impossible to translate the Qur'an in a way that would reflect its exact meaning in a different language. Arabic is often associated with Islam, but it is also spoken by Arab Christians, Arab Druze, Mizrahi Jews and Iraqi Mandaeans.
Most of the world's Muslims do not speak Arabic as their native language but can read the script and recite the words of religious texts with out understanding what they are reading.
For a Muslim it is necessary to learn Arabic as it is the language of our religion, which would help a Muslim to become a Mo'min, as we will feel in direct contact with Allah in our prayers knowing what we are reciting.
We try our best to learn different languages of the world, like English, French, and Japanese etc. then why not Arabic?
There are different levels of competence in Arabic language that range from general understanding to expert linguistic knowledge. In a Muslim Society and especially in an Islamic State there should be a group of scholars who should be fully competent to understand the Qur'an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), directly in Arabic Language and the fundamental books of Islamic Sciences, Who can teach our off-spring to speak and to understand Arabic.
The general population of Islamic society is supposed to read through translation of Qur'an at least once. Unfortunately in Pakistan, not more than fifteen percent of Matric pass students have read translation of Qur'an. In the days of Prophet and the caliphs, general public was well acquainted with the Qur'an and that is why, Islamic society was based on principles of honesty, truth, justice and brotherhood. Presently when we offer our prayers our mind gets diverted into the worldly matters, reason being we do not understand what we are reciting, same is the problem while reciting Holy Qur'an. The concept and knowledge of the Holy Qur'an is not clearly taught in Colleges and Universities and even not by Ulma. Today majority of us study in Islamic Madrassa, just only to get degree and to get a job.
If Arabic is taught to us as a core subject we would better be able to understand our religion first hand and emerge as a better nation.
First of all we need to clarify the terms, like Muslim and Ummah. The slavery for many generations changed Muslim mind set. Our goals and objectives have changed from being a good Muslim to be a successful individual. We desperately need basic understanding of concepts and teachings of holy Qur'an in our life. Here notion of success is very different. We think those who have wealth are successful people of the society, which are not the criteria of success in Islam. According to Islam successful is the one who successfully passed the trial, in which, he was put by Allah. This understanding can change the whole society. The real Islamic society is one in which every one gets his proper rights. The principle of distribution of wealth should be based on justice and not of strength and the might. Neither Capitalism nor Communism provides the correct distribution of resources. The only proven system which creates justice, peace harmony and long lasting progress in the society is the one provided by Qur’an and implemented by the last Prophet (PBH) 1400 years ago. If we have to succeed and survive we have to come back to it through correct understanding of Qur’an through its correct language ARABIC.
